Have A Word-Campaign Against Male Violence
In my youth, I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve stood by and said nothing as mates harassed passing women on the streets. I was complicit in my silence.
Its good to see campaigns like this that are no longer urging women to protect themselves. The emphasis is now on the men’s behavior. And about time. Nobody should face harassment like this. It’s bullying. It’s intimidation. It’s aggressive as fuck and needs to be stopped.
The Mayor of London launched the campaign this week declaring that there’s an “epidemic of violence against women and girls, committed by men” in the UK capital.
An epidemic.
This has been going on for too long. If this campaign stops and makes at l,east one man aware of the shit he puts women through, then that’s a success.
“I want all of us to be challenging sexism and misogyny,” says Khan. “Whether it’s on the streets or online in a group chat, at home or in the pub, we all have a responsibility to raise our voices to help keep women and girls safe.
“Male violence against women and girls can start with words. If you see it happening, have a word with yourself, then your mates. It’s time we kick these rotten attitudes out of our city and society for good.” Source…
