I love 'discovering' new sounds, new bands, new singers. But sometimes, it feels overwhelming. The sheer choice of music out there. I think this is what prevents people from discovery. When you're confronted with too much choice, your brain freezes. You stick with what you know, what you're comfortable with. We're all tuned differently too. Our environment has shaped our learning. If my brother was into heavy metal then I'm sure I would have been influenced to listen more to it. If more of my friends loved that sound, then that's the road I would've traveled. Exposure and familiarity. To this day, I still hate Metal and all its sub genres despite regularly attempting to listen to recommendations.
