The most important lesson is telling people no, it won’t work. This takes a long time to build up that confidence and to establish yourself as somebody who knows what they’re talking about. Remember though, everybody, at some point, has had to suck it up with a bad client, micro manager of a boss who just wants you to do it their way (that’s when you dump the client or get a new job if they’re a repeat offender!)
