Once Upon A Pud — Sainsbury’s
Love it or loathe it, the Christmas Pudding takes center stage in Sainsbury’s new Christmas ad.
It’s a traditional tale of a slave boy who makes good and saves his head from being chopped off. What’s more, the pudding really does look tasty and fit for a queen.
Part of the new Taste The Difference range, the traditional pud is now biscuit covered and caramelized. Why everything has to be caramelized is beyond me. As the unofficial Christmas grinch, I hate caramel and despair whenever anyone tells me it’s a new flavor. It’s very much like doing a cover version of a song by making it slow and acoustic. It really does lack imagination.
Voice-over by Stephen Fry and starring UK TV personality Alison Hammond (Big Brother and I’m A Celebrity), the scene is set in a castle with the Queen’s challenge for something new pudding-wise.
“The slightly bizarre instrumental version of Wheatus’ Teenage Dirtbag that soundtracks the spot also cleverly taps into the current TikTok mania for #bardcore — which involves people taking iconic pop songs and transforming them into medieval bangers, obvs.” Source Creative Review
