Proper english is something you’ll always hear in England. As a former eastender who worked in the local market, my parents were appalled whenever I said ain’t or innit. One must always speak the Queens english. Aspirational. But more enforcement of the class system.
Here in NZ theres a racial divide with speech too. As in the whole globe. Those working in fields speak differently to those in cities. It’s an educational divide. An economic divide. In NZ, the Queens english is promoted via news channels. Maori speech is widely seen as being uneducated. Again, class and race divide. Same applies to Australia. So when you say no one cares about those accents, you just need to dig a little deeper.
Oh, and I see no reason why one speech pattern being closer to the original form can be viewed as more authentic. Language evolves like you pointed out later in your piece.
