So many words to be outraged by, how on earth does a writer even write? Language evolves, gets appropriated for other uses (as mentioned in the other comments, itis is prolific in medical dictionaries), gets reclaimed, gets abandoned and everybody moves on. Personally, I've never heard the term mentioned until now. I would say 'lighten up' but that would probably get me in hot water too.
