The wedding was a grand occasion. Hundreds of relatives had flown in.

I was with two friends, squeezed tight into the small toilet. Rolled up twenties poised and ready.

The knock startled us. A demanding customer wanting to release his bowels. He had a speech to make.

My friend said he recognized the voice. I had just come up for air. More door banging. The toilet was a carrion call for the desperate.

The door opened. I stood staring, nose wiping and sniffing, eyeballing the Rabbi. It was a look I’ve never forgotten.

Head shaking, the Rabbi slammed the door.
