US? Even worse, I’m from the UK. Decades of repression to deal with and a long line of British awkwardness!

I think you’re right to a degree. But every household has a line. I have to respect for wife’s wishes when it comes to profanity, sex and violence. And while we’re open about sex and don’t hide body parts around cutesy names, swearing (and violence) is her line. You shouldn’t really judge people without knowing their backgrounds. For example, are victims of abuse more likely to shield their children from lyrical content that triggers that abusive memory? I’m not saying these are our circumstances, but you should really think about how you comment.

So yes. I agree with you. I wish I could play whatever music I liked in front of the kids. And that we should be open about it.

Thanks for writing Martin, really appreciate the perspective. Lots to think about. Might be time to have that conversation.
