Was this really a choice? If you had the money and could afford to run the car, would you still choose not to? I dream of owning an electronic car, but if I was honest, it wouldn’t be because of the environment, it would be the cost of petrol and the money I would save every day.

In London, petrol tax is driving more and more people to public transport. It isn’t by choice but expense.

Here in NZ, public transport outside the main city centres doesn’t exist. There’s no infrastructure. Giving up your car isn’t an option if you needed to work.

I think expense (all we need is another gulf war) will be the driving force behind people’s motivation to drive. The US gas prices are too cheap to ignore. But cut off the subsidy and who suffers? It won’t be the rich.
